Singapore > Sarawak

Posted by Chris Tandy on February 10, 2008

Hey kids,

I went to Singapore zoo on the last day I was there.  Absolutely stunning, makes Twycross look as though it is third world.  Set in 28 hectares of secondary rainforest, everything is open plan, so now cages etc.  The Ethiopian Plains exhibit had an entire eco system recreated.  70 Baboons running around along with a few deer and other smaller creatures, it was about the size of a football pitch, with mini cliffs, waterfalls etc.  The orangutans were free to swing up in the canopys and make their nests at night as they liked.  Maybe about 20 of them swinging around or climbing around on an island.  Ended up sitting and watching them for about an hour, it was great!

Anyway, this is only a short post, I got into Kuching yesterday and am transferring to the orangutan centre tomorrow morning, have met a couple of the other people who seem cool enough, so I’m getting pretty excited now!

The net connection here is very slow, so i’ll get the last of the photos from singapore up soon as I can.  I’m not sure whether or not the centre has internet access, but i’ll try and get something up on here soon as I can.

X

Also, I am fed up of you bragging about how good your life is, I would like to explain to everyone just how amazing and exciting my life is too! Can I update photos on this geeky website of yours? Also, I went out for a drink with your girlfriend in a NON Pearl Harbour kind of way, she was quite boring and I don’t think I shall do it again. x

    ALSO

I saw a King Cobra in Singapore within about 45 mins of arriving (according to an earlier comment this is rare, perhaps I am revered in Singapore as some kind of King of the snakes?? Not sure if this is true, but if you could find out that would be great). That is all.

I forgot to ask, are you having Roti Prata and kopi o for breakfast? I hope so….(There is a good place that does it in Tanglin Halt)

Just one last thing, you quite clearly said in your “blob” or “blog” or “bloj”, or whatever you geeks cal it, that Singapore Zoo has no cages/fences, merely water. I would like to point out that in the background of the photo of a Rhino I can quite clearly see a fence – clear as day. Explain that away Mr Stalin! Has someone been editing photos???

    Thanks for the offer Kate:

“What psychological factors distinguish nationalism from other forms of group solidarity?”

4000 words on the nose if you would be so kind.

    Cheers big ears.
